A TEAM of senior officers of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) joined the community of Kaikan, Region Seven on Thursday to close the curtains on heritage celebrations, following a week of inter-community sports competitions which also involved neighbouring communities.

Last week, Toshao Marlon Williams and other community representatives received a donation of sports equipment as part of the force’s contribution towards making the event a reality.

Lieutenant Colonel, Eon Murray; Majors Nigel Langhorne, Dr. Meer Khan and Captain Lloyden Layne represented the Force along with Shameena Haniff of the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) at the official close of heritage celebrations in the community.

Toshao Marlon Williams, expressed gratitude to the GDF for their continued support to the development of the Kaikan community.
He observed that the community was grateful for strengthened relations with the GDF. “We are still working to build a great relationship but we are thankful for the GDF’s continued support in sports, health and education,” he asserted.

In November, as part of anniversary celebrations, the Guyana Defence Force has planned a medical outreach to the community in collaboration with the CIOG.

The outreach will be conducted on November 11 and 12. Force Medical Officer, Major Nigel Langhorne made the announcement to residents at the event. The announcement was met with cheers of approval.
