Man accused of murdering friend remanded

A 48-year-old Hope Estate, East Coast Demerara resident who allegedly chopped his friend to death, was, on Tuesday, remanded to prison by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

Sahadeo Persaud appeared before the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that he murdered Pradesh Ramgobin, 32, of Block 5 Hope, East Coast Demerara

Persaud was remanded to prison until November 30, 2021.

According to the police, Ramgobin was killed sometime between 17:00 hrs on September 21 and 09:00 hrs on September 22.

Police disclosed that Ramgobin regularly consumed alcohol with friends.

On September 21, he left his mother’s home to lime with Persaud and other friends but never returned.

The following day, at about 08:30 hrs, Persaud went to the victim’s mother and reportedly told her that her son was chopped on his hand and head which caused him to die.

Subsequently, the police were informed and went to Persaud’s home where Ramgobin was found lying clad in blue underwear on a bed surrounded by blood.

As a result, the body was examined and two wounds and other injuries were found on the body.

Persaud reportedly confessed to chopping his friend during an argument.
