US-BASED Guyanese cricket team Galaxy CC were able to beat fellow pro-Guyanese side, Meten-Meer-Zorg CC, when the two teams recently battled in a special arranged T10 clash in preparation for the NYNCL and Rockaway Group T20 Cup.
For Meten-Meer-Zorg, it was a chance to gain revenge on Galaxy, who defeated them in last weekend’s Caribbean Fest 40-over final, but instead, it was a repeat of the final, with the full-strength Galaxy side doing the damage.
Galaxy CC won the toss and opted to bat. An explosive 77-run second-wicket partnership in 4.5 overs, between former West Indies U-19 batsman Zamal Khan and national cricketer Jonathan Foo, ignited the run surge.
Khan struck five sixes and two fours off 24 balls for a top score of 60, while Foo, who opened the batting, supported with 40 runs (1×4, 5×6) from 15 balls.
Former West Indies Test cricketer Devendra Bishoo with 21 runs (3×6,seven balls) and National cricketer Gudakesh Motie with 17 runs (1×4, 2×6) supported with a few big shots, which helped to push the side to 155-5 from their allotted overs.
In reply, skipper Andy Mohammed played a few shots for 32 (1×4, 3×6) and Seon Daniel added an unbeaten 32 (2×4, 3×6) from 16 balls, but it was not enough as Meten-Meer-Zorg folded for 114.
Motie spun his way to 2-5 from two overs to lead Galaxy’s bowling attack.
