Five-month-old among latest COVID-19 fatalities

–241 new cases recorded

A FIVE-MONTH-OLD of Region One (Barima-Waini) was among three persons who succumbed recently after contracting the dreaded novel coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the Ministry of Health.

The loss of those lives took the overall COVID-19 death toll to 706, and in addition to the baby, the other fatalities were two males, a partially vaccinated 69-year-old and an unvaccinated 79-year-old, both from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

Additionally, the Ministry of Health reported that 241 new cases were recorded from 1,689 tests conducted between September 16 and September 17. Those new cases took the overall number of confirmed cases to 29,072.

New cases were recorded in Regions One (10), Two (three), Three (48), Four (96), Five (14), Six (six), Seven (21), Eight (23), Nine (10) and 10 (10).
Up to Friday, there were 35 persons in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 164 in institutional isolation and 3,347 in home isolation.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 Emergency Measures (NO.21), which are in effect until September 30, 2021.
This order emphasises the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home; the importance of maintaining six feet of physical distance from others, and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
