Man, 23, dies in Farm accident

A 23-year-old man, identified as Ishwar Mohan, died on Saturday night after a car ran over his body while he laid at the side of the road at Farm, East Bank Demerara.

A police report noted that Mohan of Success, East Coast Demerara, was lying at the side of the road when he was ran over by motor car (PZZ 7322) driven by Jaleel Henry, 22.

Police reported that Henry was proceeding north along the western side of the carriageway at a fast rate when the incident occurred; eyewitnesses reported that Mohan’s body was dragged some distance.

Mohan was picked up in an unconscious state by the police and public-spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead.

Police said that the driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the time of the accident and instead went to the Providence Police Station and reported the matter. A breathalyzer test was conducted and no trace of alcohol was detected on his breath.

Mohan’s body is at the Memorial Gardens Crematorium awaiting a post mortem. The driver remains in police custody as investigations continue.
