Two COVID-19 deaths take death toll to 624

THE COVID-19 death toll continues on an upward trajectory as Guyana registered its latest deaths — a 70-year-old female from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) and a 95-year-old male from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), taking the total number of deaths related to this virus to 624.

In addition to the death toll, the number of new cases of persons who tested positive for the virus continues to increase as well with an additional 222 from some 2,998 tests conducted within a 24-hour period.

With the new confirmed cases, the country’s overall number of confirmed cases stands at 25,770. The bulk of new cases were recorded in Region Four (Demerara – Mahaica) which saw 131 persons testing positive.

Region Two recorded 10 new cases; Region Three recorded 33; Region Five, nine new cases; Region Six, three new cases; Region Seven, 20 new cases; Region Nine, two new cases, and Region 10, 13 new cases.

At the end of Wednesday, 34 persons were in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 107 were in institutional isolation, 1,809 were in home isolation and there were seven persons in institutional quarantine.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which are in effect until August 31, 2021.
