–Cricketers advised to be fully vaccinated or to have a negative PCR test
THE Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) was, on Monday, granted conditional approval from the National COVID-19 Task Force for the resumption of cricket in the capital city.
Among the conditions that are in place for the re-start of the sport includes having no spectators at the matches, except by written approval from the Minister of Health or the Task Force.
Additionally, the Task Force indicated that: “It is highly recommended that all players and officials be fully vaccinated or produce a negative PCR test for the game.”
The Task Force is also asking that all knockout competitions be staged in a staggered format, so as to avoid excessive crowding of teams, while they have kept their ban on music and alcoholic drink bars at the venues.
According to the Chairman of the GCA Competitions Committee, Shaun Massiah, a meeting was held on Monday evening at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) ground to inform the clubs about the conditional approval.
“We had a meeting last night with reps from the clubs, where we informed them about the guidelines and asked them to report the information to their players concerning the vaccines and the PCR tests. We asked the clubs to respond to us before September 10 so that we can charter the way forward.”
The GCA was represented by its president, Neil Barry; Chairman of the senior selectors, Mark Harper, along with Shaun Massiah.
