177 new COVID-19 cases recorded

EVEN as the fight against the deadly COVID-19 virus continues, Guyana now has recorded a total of 1,320 active cases following the addition of 177 new cases in the past 24 hours from 1,570 tests.

The 177 newly confirmed cases were recorded in Regions One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Nine and 10. No new deaths were reported and so the total number remains at 591.
Region Four accounted for 91 of the new cases; Regions One and Two recorded three new cases each; Region Three recorded 23 new cases; Region Five recorded four new cases; Region Six recorded five new cases; Region Seven recorded 11 new cases while Regions Nine and 10 recorded 28 and nine cases, respectively.

Even as the new cases were recorded, 66 persons were reported to have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 22,318. The country has now recorded a total of 24,224 confirmed cases since March 2020.

Of the active cases, 15 persons are at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National Infectious Diseases Hospital, Liliendaal; 103 are in institutional isolation; 1,197 are in home isolation and five are in institutional quarantine.

Many of the persons infected with the virus are said to be asymptomatic, that is, they are not exhibiting symptoms.
The updated COVID–19 Emergency Measures are in force from August 1, 2021, until August 31, 2021. They may be extended or amended by notice of the Minister of Health, after an assessment of the prevailing public health conditions of the pandemic.

As per the current measures, however, all persons are required to wear face masks when leaving their homes, and physical distancing and adequate sanitisation are recommended. The current curfew begins at 22:30 hours and ends on 04:00 hours.
