COME August 9, Justice Sandil Kissoon is expected to sum up the evidence in the retrial of Kevin Mohan called ‘Chucky,’ who is accused of killing his aunt in 2016.
Mohan, 27, formerly of Fifth Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, has pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 4, 2016, at Cummings Lodge, he murdered 48-year-old Anita Mohan. Following the summing up at the Demerara High Court, the judge will hand the case over to the 12-member jury, who will retire to consider their verdict.
The accused is being represented by attorney-at-law Damian DaSilva, while prosecutors Taneisha Saygon, Lisa Cave and Muntaz Ali are on record for the state.
In March 2021, the case was sent for retrial after the jury was unable to arrive at a verdict. The case was before Justice Navindra Singh.
According to reports, the woman’s battered body was found on the floor of her kitchen at Fifth Street, Cummings Lodge where she lived with Mohan and her son, Intiaz Khan. Khan found his mother lying in blood with her head bashed in and a stab wound to her chest. A bloody ‘rolling pin,’ and a broken bottle, suspected to be the murder weapons, were found close to the body. The police had noted that the accused confessed to the murder and had said that another person acted as his accomplice.
A post-mortem performed on the remains of the woman revealed that she died from multiple injuries.
