FORMER Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) cricketer Dino Chooweenam, who was outstanding in the early part of the season, seems to have found form once again for the Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club, while opening bowler Altaaf Habibulla produced another devastating spell.
In their latest encounter of the Caribbean Fest 40 Overs Tournament, Chooweenam, the opening talisman, struck an aggressive half-century to lead his side to an eight-wicket victory against the Bronx Cricket Club at the Baisley ground. Bronx CC won the toss and opted to bat, but the side could not get on top of the bowling as Habibulla destroyed the top order. He finished with 5-13 from eight overs. Support came from Leon Mohabir who unravelled the tail with 3-37 from six overs. Chooweenam and skipper of the side, former national U-19 cricketer Trevor Henry, picked up a wicket each to restrict their opponents for 106 in 28.1 overs.

Henry’s wicket was that of opposing captain Sabbir Chowdhury (45 from 52 balls).
Chooweenam then ensured that his side romped to victory with a blistering 72 from 31 balls. The hard-hitting opener blasted eight sixes and three fours at a strike rate of 232.26, which propelled the side to 111-2 in 11 overs. With the victory, the US-based Guyanese team are back on top of Group B. They currently have a better net run rate than fellow Guyanese sides Everest/ACS and Meten-Meer-Zorg CC. All three teams are tied on 19 points with nine wins in 12 matches.
Another Guyanese side, Galaxy CC are the overall leaders with 22 points with 11 wins from 12 games. They lead another pro-Guyanese team, Majestic CC by four points in Group B.
A total of 20 teams, 10 in each group are competing in the tournament.
