FISTEEN Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) are currently undergoing training in Drill Course 2021-02. The six-week course formally opened following a simple ceremony at the Base Office Lecture Hall, at Base Camp Ayanganna on Friday. The Drill Course exposes ranks to a combination of Basic and Ceremonial manoeuvres such as foot, rifle, pace stick, sword, guard of honour, colours and funeral drills. Additionally, it aims at imparting and equipping the NCOs with the requisite knowledge and skills necessary to improve their individual drill proficiency. Upon completion of the course, the ranks will confidently drill a squad, using the correct word of command. During brief remarks, Base Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mathew Chichester outlined the importance of drills and their roles in the military. He also charged the ranks with practicing a high degree of self-discipline, which he posited contributes to professionalism in their personal lives as well as the Force. “Self-discipline is the ability to control oneself; make oneself work hard, and behave practically without supervisory interventions. It is the distinct ability to do what we have to do, even when we do not want to do it. From here onwards, I charge you to practice self-disciplined because it helps us achieve our goals. Discipline is what takes us from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’. Discipline, especially in the form of drills, creates precision and obedience. Adapt sound self-discipline and let us move this course and the Force forward,” Commander Chichester charged. Following the successful completion of the course, outstanding ranks will be recognised and awarded with prizes.
