A 102-year-old woman is among three COVID-19 deaths reported by the Ministry of Health, taking the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 492, with 16 of those deaths recorded during this month so far.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Health reported that the latest fatalities are: a 60-year-old man from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), who died on July 8; a 67-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica), who died on July 9 and the 102-year-old woman, also from Region Four, who died on July 8 as well.
The ministry said that the patients were admitted with COVID-19 like symptoms, but died while receiving care at a medical institution. Samples were reportedly taken at the time of admission and those subsequently returned positive.
In addition to these three deaths, the ministry’s daily COVID-19 dashboard indicates that another 90 people became infected with the virus after 1,469 tests were conducted. This means that there have been 20,924 infections recorded since March, 2020.
These cases were recorded in Region One (10 cases), Region Two (12 cases), Region Three (eight cases), Region Four (29 cases), Region Five (five cases), Region Six (six cases), Region Nine (eight cases) and Region 10 (12 cases).
Meanwhile, there are 12 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 85 people in institutional isolation, 1,337 are in home isolation and 15 in institutional quarantine.
All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of face masks when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six-foot physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
