THE University of the Southern Caribbean (USC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Colwick Mervyn Wilson as the institution’s 29th President.
According to a release, Dr. Wilson, a Guyanese by birth, comes to USC from the Provostship of Oakwood University (OU), Huntsville, Alabama, USA. Prior to his appointment at OU in 2017, he served in substantive roles as professor, researcher and academic leader at a number of universities, including Loma Linda University, California, the Kettering Health Network, Ohio, and the University of Michigan. Dr. Colwick Wilson, the release said, is a proud alumnus of the University of the Southern Caribbean where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. He holds a Master of Arts degree in leadership and counselling from Eastern Michigan University, and he received a second Masters of Arts and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan with an emphasis in medical sociology and social psychology.

Dr. Wilson has a strong record of accomplishments in research, academic publications, and grant writing and his published work appears in several peer-reviewed journals. He has expansive experience teaching advanced statistics, research methods, social psychology, public health, medical family therapy, and applied sociology. The release also noted that he has served as chair/member for just over 100 theses, projects, and dissertations.
“Dr. Wilson’s commitment to advancing USC’s philosophy of holistic development will serve the university well into its 95th anniversary of transformative education delivery. His academic and administrative expertise will importantly inform his perspective as he leads his alma mater through this unparalleled time in higher education. Dr. Wilson assumed duty on July 01, 2021,” the release said.
