DELWYN Lewis who allegedly dealt his stepson several chops about his body, was, on Tuesday, placed on $400,000 bail by Magistrate Delon Bess when he made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Lewis denied that, on Friday, June 25, 2021, at Holy Place, Ekereku, Cuyuni River, with intent to commit murder, he wounded Michael Fernandes.
According to the prosecution, about 09:30 hours on the date mentioned in the particulars of the charge, Lewis visited Fernandes and his wife at his work camp located at Ekereku Backdam.
During their conversation, they started arguing. The argument escalated. Fernandes reportedly armed himself with a piece of wood and attempted to hit Lewis. In retaliation, Lewis reportedly used a cutlass to chop Fernandes about the body.
Fernandes ran away and was eventually rescued by persons working in the area. He was then taken to the Ekereku Police Station and later escorted to a hospital in Georgetown where he was admitted as a patient.
Lewis was subsequently arrested and charged.
The matter was adjourned until Monday, September 13, 2021.
