Teen arrested in failed carjacking

A TEENAGER who attempted to steal a blue Toyota Carina motorcar with registration PKK 543, valued at $1.1M, was, on Monday, arrested after crashing the car into a drain while fleeing the scene at Cherry Field, La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Police said that the 43-year-old victim was in his house when he heard that someone had switched on his car engine. He raised an alarm and neighbours rendered assistance, giving chase and apprehending the suspect, who was caught, stuck in a trench with the said car.

When handed over to the police, the 19-year-old was seen with injuries to the head. He is hospitalised under police guard in a stable condition as investigations continue.
