One more COVID-19 death, 134 new cases recorded

THE Ministry of Health, on Wednesday, reported that as of Tuesday, June 8, one more person who tested positive for COVID-19, has succumbed to the deadly virus. The total number of deaths, which is now 417, is reflected in the ministry’s daily COVID-9 dashboard for June 9.
The latest fatality is one 79-year-old male from Region Four who died while receiving care at a Ministry of Health facility. His death pushes the COVID-19 toll for June 2021 to 19.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has recorded 134 new cases of COVID-19, with 1,756 tests conducted for Tuesday June 8.
Of these, Region One recorded two cases; Region Two, three cases; Region Three, nine cases; Region Four, 49 cases; Region Five , nine cases; Region Six , 37 cases; Region Seven, one case; Region Nine, 16 cases, and Region 10, eight cases. The newly infected persons were 58 males and 76 females.

Currently, there are 20 persons within the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 99 in institutional isolation, 1,566 isolated at home, and four in institutional quarantine.
Guyana has confirmed a total of 17,939 cases of COVID-19 since the arrival of the deadly virus in the country.
Of that number, 1,689 are currently active; and of the 15,837 recoveries, 209 were recorded within the past 24 hours.
All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
