Man accused of rape granted $150,000 bail

TROY Jones of James Street, Albouystown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, charged with rape and was placed on $150,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Anna McLennan. Jones, known as “Curry”, denied that he,on October 24, 2020, at an East Bank Demerara location, engaged in sexual penetration with a woman without her consent. According to the prosecution, Jones and the woman have known each other for over 11 years. The two spent several hours together at an agreed location before returning to their respective homes. The woman subsequently accused Jones of raping her. The matter was reported and an investigation was launched. Jones was subsequently charged for the offence.

He will make his second court appearance on June 21, 2021.
