99 COVID-19 deaths recorded for May; country’s overall total is 403

THE announcement of two more COVID-19 deaths for the month of May has increased that month’s documented toll from 97 to 99.
Those persons are two females: a 71-year-old of Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice), who died on May 27, and a 36-year-old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), who died on May 26. The fifth person to die in June is a female, aged 75 from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), who succumbed on Wednesday.
They all died while receiving medical care at Ministry of Health institutions, and their deaths take the country’s overall total to 403.
In the meantime, 83 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded from 1,512 tests conducted for Thursday, June 3, 2021.
Of those, Region One (Barima-Waini) recorded eight; Region Three, seven; Region Four, 40; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), two; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), seven; Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), 15, and Region 10, four.

The newly infected persons include 34 males and 49 females.
To date, there are 17 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 105 in institutional isolation, 1,772 in home isolation, and six in institutional quarantine.
Guyana has confirmed 17,459 cases of COVID-19 since its discovery here in March 2020; 1,900 of which are currently active. Eighty-nine of the 15,162 overall recoveries were recorded within the past 24 hours. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
