FOUR deaths related to COVID-19 have so far been recorded for the month of June, 2021, a statement released by the Ministry of Health on Thursday has indicated.
According to the ministry, the four persons died between June 1 and 2 while receiving medical care at Ministry of Health institutions.
According to the statement, the latest fatalities are two men and a woman from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), aged 71, 88 and 67, respectively, and a woman from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice). Their deaths take the overall toll for the pandemic, in Guyana, to 400.
Meanwhile, 119 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded after 1,375 tests were carried out on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.
Of these, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) recorded one; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 16; Region Four, 46; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), seven; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), 13; Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), 26, and Region Ten, 10.

The newly infected persons were 59 males and 60 females. There are 17 persons within the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 103 in institutional isolation, 1,783 in home isolation, and seven in institutional quarantine. Guyana has confirmed 17,376 cases of COVID-19 since its detection in March 2020; 1,910 of which are currently active, while 46 of the 15,073 overall recoveries were recorded within the past 24 hours All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
