JUNIOR Jose Garcia Ferrer, a Venezuelan man who was found with an illegal firearm and matching ammunition, on Monday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Ferrer denied that he, on May 13, 2021, at the Cuyuni River, had in his possession a Glock 19 pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence at the time. He also denied that on the same date and at the same place, he had in his possession 22 rounds of 9mm ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.

According to the prosecution’s case, at about 16:00 hours on the day in question, ranks of the Eteringbang Police Station were patrolling the Cuyuni River when they observed Ferrer in a boat.

When the stopped the boat and conducted a search, the items mentioned in the charge were found in a red haversack.
Ferrer was arrested and subsequently charged, and is scheduled to return to court on June 14.
