FORMER Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) cricketer, Dion Choo-wee-nam and former Berbice Inter-county all-rounder, Derick Narine, scored half-centuries before striking with the ball to hand Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club a huge 157-run victory against Punjab XI when action in the New York National Cricket League 30-over competition continued over the weekend.

Richmond Hill won the toss and opted to bat first at Baisley Pond. They had in their mix the in-form Choo-wee-nam, who broke the club record in the 40-over competition two weekends ago. The overseas-based Guyanese, who had scored 181 in the 40-over competition, was able to race to 92 off 42 balls by blasting 10 sixes and five fours on Saturday.

Narine was also in scoring mode, his 88 runs came off of 45 balls and included six sixes and eight fours. For the first wicket, the pair added 186 before Choo-wee-nam fell in the 14th over. Narine followed him in the next over.

Punjab XI were able to pull the game back and restrict the run flow after the openers fell.
By the end of the allotted 30 overs, Richmond Hill reached 280-8. Laddi Singh, who got the wicket of Narine, finished with 5-24.

When Punjab batted, Narine and Choo-wee-nam were in the thick of the action again. Narine, who did the damage early, got three wickets with his medium pace, while Choo-wee-nam, who is a two time-time reigning MVP for his club, spun his way to two wickets, which helped to restrict Punjab XI to 123 all out in 27.4 overs.

Keron Sewnarine and Terrence Madramootoo also finished with two wickets each.
