THERE were no major surprises when one of the oldest cricket clubs in Guyana, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), held its Annual General Meeting recently.
Long-standing member and former player of the Queenstown-based club, Roger Harper, was elected unopposed to serve another two-year term.

Harper, who is also currently the lead selector of Cricket West Indies (CWI) and former coach, also served in a similar position for the past two years.
Lawrence Smith, who previously served as Second Vice-President, was elevated to First Vice-President, while another veteran club member, Patrick Harding, is the Second Vice-President.

Long-standing umpire and administrator, Colin Alfred, takes over the role of secretary, replacing Mahindra Jaikarran, while Dennis Squires maintains his position as Club Captain.

Lyndon Lyght is the new Indoor Captain, having replaced Dionne Cush-Barnwell, while veteran journalist, Adam Harris, continues to be the club’s Public Relations Officer.
Due to the fact that no one accepted nominations for the posts of Treasurer and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, these positions were left vacant but are expected to be filled at the next executive members meeting.

The Committee Members are: Troy Halley, Mahindra Jaikaran, Rudolph Callender, Reginald Brotherson and Mark Harper.
Known as the ‘Home of the Legends’, DCC has produced a number of famous players, including Sir Clive Lloyd, Lance Gibbs and the late Roy Fredericks.
