BHEEMRAJ Ramkelawan was returned as chairman of the Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club (ECCCC) for his third consecutive term when the club held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday at its pavilion.

In an invited comment, Ramkelawan told Chronicle Sport that the intention is to continue promoting the game in the community to give the young and upcoming cricketers and new recruits a chance of developing and, hopefully, of making the national teams in the future.

In a social media post after the elections, the club stated that: “A majority decision was also taken to continue playing cricket on the East Coast under any body which recognises all of the active clubs on the East Coast of Demerara whilst embracing non-active clubs.”

The olive branch by one of the top clubs on the East Coast is to facilitate the development of the game.
Secretary Suresh Jainarine, in his brief remarks, highlighted the challenge in getting ECCCC as a voting member under the East Coast body which is recognised by the current Demerara Cricket Board.

“This is despite the club being a finalist in three different versions of cricket during 2019-2020 and being one of the most vibrant club for the past five years.”
Ramkelewan was elected unopposed, as the majority of the past executives also thanked members of the club for showing confidence in him and his team.
The Chairman outlined a series of programmes that remain incomplete due to the pandemic.

He promised to facilitate their completion post-Covid and to further promote the game.
High on the agenda is a tour to Barbados.
The club members were also encouraged to “up their level of discipline in keeping with the club’s motto”.

In addition, four youth players were recognised for their outstanding cricket progress thus far while the major sponsors during the past year: Banks DIH Ltd, Rajin Auto Paint, Cricketzone USA, Motor Trend Auto Spares, D&E Tent Rental and R.Kisson Construction Services were all applauded.
The Jainarine brothers were also praised for their contribution towards the building of the youth teams at the club.

Internally, the chairman was also recognised for his contributions towards the development of cricket on the East Coast.

The 2021 office bearers are: Chairman– Bheemraj Ramkelawan; Secretary and club captain– Suresh Jainarine; Treasurer– Vivikanand Ishwardin; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer — Tahal Ganesh and Committee members: Ramdeo Ramkissoon, Kenon Ramascindo, Ryan Ganesh and Shameer Shahib.
