FORMER Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) cricketer ,Dion Choo-wee-nam broke his US club- scoring record when he competed in the New York National Cricket League Sunday 40-over cricket competition at Baisley Pond in Queens, New York, over the weekend.

The overseas-based Guyanese set a new individual record and club record of 181 runs after surging past his 174 set in 2020.
Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club (RHLCC), who are the defending champions of the competition, batted first in a reduced 35-over game against the Punjabi Lions in the season opener.
Choo-wee-nam was destructive from the get-go. He struck nine fours and a whopping 19 sixes off 91 balls in scoring his 181.

For the first wicket, the powerful opener added 133 with Naresh Rambharos (50 runs from 37 balls with 7X4s, 2X6s), while he and Altaaf Habibulla added 125 for the fourth wicket.
Habibulla finished with 52 runs from 48 balls (4X4s, 1X6).

By the end of the 35 overs, the predominantly overseas-based Guyanese cricket club, Richmond Hill Liberty, had reached 348-6.
Choo-wee-nam, who is a two-time, reigning MVP for the club, then returned with the ball to dominate the bowling.

His off-spin bowling undermined the top order as he grabbed 5-46 from 6.4 overs. The Lions played well but were bowled out for 232- in 34.4 overs. Jagchanpreet Singh finished with 65 and Hardev Singh Raju 49.

With his overall dominance, Choo-wee-nam is now Richmond Hill’s first cricketer to have scored a century while taking a five-wicket haul in the same innings.
