Duo fined $30,000 after pleading guilty to breaking into house

TWO men who were caught red-handed by police in a woman’s house, on Wednesday, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to break and enter with intent to commit a felony. Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan ordered Shaquille Mentore and Lloyd McDonald Gobin to pay a fine of $30,000 each or spend three months in prison. The charge against them was that they, on April 17, 2021, at Craig Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, broke and entered the dwelling house of Ariana Gordon with intent to commit a felony therein. According to the prosecution, around 03:50 hours on the date mentioned in the charge, Gordon was awakened by loud noises coming from her living room. She became suspicious and made contact with the police. The ranks, who responded, found Mentore and Gobin in the house. When questioned they stated “We come fuh catch we hand but we get catch”. They were arrested and later charged. The court was informed that Mentore is a repeat offender and currently has a matter of similar nature before the court.
