PRESIDENT Irfaan Ali, on Tuesday, received a courtesy visit from members of the Novick Cardiac Alliance (NCA) at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive.
Dr William Novick and Smith Sean, Co-Founder and Care Consultant of NCA, respectively, along with Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)’s Paediatric Surgeon, Dr Marisa Seepersaud, and Head of Medical Services and Cardiology, Dr Mahendra Carpen, discussed a range of issues with President Ali, including capacity building at the medical institution.
Over the years, Dr Novick has worked with local teams to build and sustain paediatric heart surgery services in the developing world. His altruistic nature has led him to 46 cities in 32 countries over the last two decades, where he and his team have provided 7,411 children with operations and medical care.
NCA is hoping to start a similar programme in Guyana, since, according to Dr Carpen, “heart disease in children is indeed a major issue” in our country.
The Novick Cardiac Alliance is committed to bringing sustainable health care solutions to children with cardiac disease in the developing world. They are dedicated to improving the skills, knowledge, technology and experience of local health-care providers in regions of the world without access to quality paediatric cardiac care.
