38 new COVID-19 cases detected, 66 recoveries recorded

THE Ministry of Health has recorded 38 new cases of COVID-19 from 233 tests conducted for April 18, 2021. This was shown in the ministry’s daily COVID-19 dashboard for April 19.
Of those, Region One (Barima-Waini) recorded two; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 10; Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), seven; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), three; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), 14, and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice), two.

The new cases include 22 males and 16 females. No other region has confirmed new cases within the past 24 hours.
To date, there are 13 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 77 in institutional isolation, 1,294 isolated at home, and 10 in institutional quarantine.
Guyana has confirmed a total of 11,901 cases since the arrival of COVID-19 in Guyana. Of that number, 1,394 are currently active. Of the10, 246 recoveries, 66 were recorded in the past 24 hours.

All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home; the importance of maintaining the six-foot physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of the virus.
