Man charged with stealing zinc sheets from workplace

ROY Sandiford, who is accused of stealing 49 zinc sheets valued more than $900,000 from his place of work, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, and was placed on $25,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. Sandiford of Hadfield Street, Wortmanville, pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge when it was read to him. He denied that he, on April 8, 2021, at Lot 10-11 Broad Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, stole the zinc sheets valued at $962,800, the property of Rudisa Motor Company. It is alleged that on April 7, 2021, Sandiford, who is now an ex-employee of Rudisa Motor Company, reported for duty. On April 8, 2021, he was reportedly seen on CCTV camera removing several zinc sheets from the company’s premises. Sandiford was subsequently arrested. After being told of the allegation, he reportedly took police to a location were 35 of the zinc sheets were found. He was later charged. The matter was adjourned until April 26, 2021.
