Teenager’s body recovered at Onderneeming foreshore

RELATIVES, on Saturday morning, recovered the body of 15-year-old Adyemi Azeez, also known as “Adi”, at the Onderneeming foreshore, Essequibo Coast, where he reportedly drowned on Thursday last.

Azeez, who resided at Maria’s Lodge and was a student of the Abram Zuil Secondary School, was feared dead after he went for a swim with eight of his friends.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, had noted that the teenager and some of his friends were at the house of another 15-year-old student, where they cooked and relaxed for a bit.

At about 13:00hrs, they left for the Onderneeming beach where Azeez and three friends went into the water, which the friends said “was pulling heavily.”
After realising their plight, Azeez and his friends in the water started to scream for help. The students, who were not in the water, scrambled to assist their friends and managed to pull three of them to safety. However, Azeez reportedly went under and did not resurface.
His friends became scared and began to scream for help and residents reached out to them. The boys, accompanied by the residents, then made a missing person’s report at the Suddie Police Station.

The Azeez’s sister, Faneza Amin, told the Guyana Chronicle that she last saw her brother around 13:00 hrs on Thursday when he told her he was going with his friends.

She said her brother was the eldest son of her parents. She related that her brother and his friends would go on cooking trips almost every weekend. Azeez’s body is currently at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
