Four persons die of COVID-19

FOUR persons have died of COVID-19, taking Guyana’s overall death toll to 235, the Ministry of Health has announced.
The latest fatalities are two women, aged 91 and 84, from Regions Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and Region 10 (Upper Demerara – Upper Berbice), respectively, and two men, aged 62 and 45, from Regions Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) and Four (Demerara-Mahaica), respectively. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has recorded 126 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,273 tests conducted for March 31, 2021. This was shown in the ministry’s daily COVID-19 dashboard for April 1.
Of these, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) recorded eight cases; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 27; Region Four, 62; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), six; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), 17; Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), one; Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), one, and Region 10, four. The group of newly infected persons comprise 56 males and 70 females. No other region has confirmed new cases within the past 24 hours.

There are currently 12 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 64 in institutional isolation, 907 isolated at home, and 21 in institutional quarantine. Guyana has confirmed a total of 10,375 cases since the detection of COVID-19 in Guyana. The country has 1,004 active cases. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six-feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
