Karim, Sinclair and Andrews spur GDF to victory over GYO in NBS 40-over cricket

A HALF-CENTURY from Javed Karim and all-round performances from Junior Sinclair and Leon Andrews propelled the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) to a 68-run victory against the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) when the two teams met on Sunday in an NBS Second-Division 40-over clash.

The win for GDF came on the heels of a defeat to the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) on Saturday in the same competition, which re-started last weekend after a lengthy break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

GDF batted first at Queen’s College ground and posted 248 before they were bowled out in 35 overs.
Karim, playing in his first game for the lawmen, led the attack with 85.
The 21-year-old opener, who was selective in his stroke play, struck six fours and a six during his innings. He had support from Sinclair, who chipped in 18 and skipper Andrews who batted well for 32.

When Andrews fell, Zameer Nazeer struck a quick-fire 33, which included four sixes and a four.
Richard Hoyte and Joshua Ramsammy were the pick of the GYO bowlers after finishing with three wickets each.

GYO were cruising in their chase with T. Liverpool and Yeudister Persaud both scoring half-centuries and pushing the score to 115 but the GDF spinners took control.

Former National Youth player Sinclair, who finished with four wickets with his off-spin, had Persaud caught for 62 (7×4), while left-arm spinner Keith Simpson saw the back of Liverpool, who had struck eight fours and two sixes in his score of 65.
Andrews supported with three wickets.
