-Khan grabs five, Nandu and Looknauth hit half-centuries
HOME team, the Everest Cricket Club were comfortably placed with a first-innings lead of 100 and wickets in hand against the University of Guyana when stumps were lifted at the end of day one of their Noble House Seafoods Second-Division Two-Day encounter.
Former West Indies U19 leg spinner Amir Khan did the damage with the ball, before opener Matthew Nandu and middle-order batsman Richie Looknauth scored half centuries.
Everest won the toss and inserted the visiting Trojans to take first strike, and it worked in their favour as Khan cleaned up the top order, claiming 5 for 25 from 11 overs.
Only L. Parks with a quick-fire 22 (4X4s), K. Morris with 16 not out and Damion Vantull with 10 (1X6) reached double figures as the Trojans were bundled out for 72 in 33.4 overs.
Left-arm spinner Javid Rasheed supported Khan with 2-7 from five overs.
In reply, Morris had Anthony Khan caught off the second ball of the innings, but fellow opener Nandu and later Looknauth, who batted at five, played themselves in.
Looknauth, who was the aggressor of the two, ran well between the wickets, while he also picked up the odd boundaries. In the end, he was trapped LBW by J. Rampersaud for 58 (4X4s). Nandu was left not out on 57 (5X4s) and Khan on six, which had pushed their side to 172-4.
M. Cumberbatch, who took the wickets of Captain Dwayne Adams (15) and teenager Ushardeva Balgobin (15 3X4s), was the pick of the visiting bowlers with 2-31 from nine overs.
