AN accident on the Strathspey Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Friday last, resulted in the death of 80-year-old Wilfred Stephen, a resident of Vigilance North, ECD.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Stephen was riding on his bicycle heading east when he reportedly served into the path of minibus BYY9035, driven by Gordon Pieters of Haslington, ECD; the minibus was heading in the same direction and struck Stephen off his bicycle.

The elderly man fell onto the road surface where he sustained injuries about his head and body. The 80-year-old was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

Stephen subsequently died without regaining consciousness. The driver remains in police custody while the police review CCTV footage.
