… Chantoba Bright, Natricia Hooper and Andrea Foster on show

ALL eyes will be on the NCAA National Indoor Championship, which begins today in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the Randal Tyson Track Centre.
As some of the top collegiate track and field athletes look to make their claim as the best in their respective disciplines across the USA, in the mix will be Guyana’s Chantoba Bright, Andrea Foster and Natricia Hooper. Bright will turn out for Kansas State University, while Foster will feature for Clemson University and Hooper will compete for the University of Florida at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championships, which will wrap-up on March 13.

Though the Championship gets on the way today, Foster will compete tomorrow in the women’s 800 metres.
The Guyanese will be just one of six athletes from Clemson at the Championship. She qualified to the National event after clocking two minutes 03.54 seconds (2:03.54) to finish third in the women’s 800 at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Indoor Championship earlier this month. The time, a Personal Best, was the third fastest in the school’s history.

Meanwhile, Bright will also be on show yomorrow in the women’s Long Jump.
Bright reached the National Championship in the Long Jump following a fourth-place finish in the BIG 12 Conference, where she had leaped a distance of 6.43 metres.
However, on Saturday, Bright and Hooper will go head-to-head in the women’s Triple Jump.
At the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships, Hooper leaped 13.43 metres to finish third in the Women’s Triple Jump.
The Guyanese is ranked 5th All-Time in the Gators’ history in the Women’s Triple Jump for her mark of 13.53 metres (set in 2019).
Bright, on the other hand, at the BIG 12 Conference, scored a Personal Best (PB) 13.60 metres to finish second in the Women’s Triple Jump. Nicola Martial’s 13.62 metres is Guyana’s National Indoor Record.
