BAYLI Spencer-Adams said it was an emotional moment for his family when he was named in the preliminary Guyana squad for their World Cup qualifiers this month.
The defender, who played both of the FA Cup third-round ties against Tranmere last season, has been provisionally called up by coach Márcio Máximo for games against Trinidad & Tobago on March 25 and The Bahamas on March 31.
The 19-year-old was born in London but qualifies to play for Golden Jaguars through his father.
“My dad broke the news to the family on FaceTime and the family are all buzzing and really proud,” said Spencer-Adams.
“My dad is Guyanese and so are my grandparents so it’s so nice for them. I haven’t been to Guyana for a while so it will be great to go back and perhaps see some aunties, uncles and cousins,” Bayli added.

Spencer-Adams appeared on Guyana’s radar after his call-up to the first team last season and then when he played on loan at Dover earlier this year, adding “I received a few messages in the past, but I didn’t really think it would turn into anything serious,”
“I’ve played a few senior games and now they’ve confirmed their interest. I’m delighted to accept and can’t wait to meet up with some of the lads. I’ve already spoken to a few of them and we all can’t wait to play in World Cup qualifiers,” he said.

The call-up caps a good few weeks for the former Arsenal defender, who has captained the Under-23 side at points during a run of four wins in six games and scored a stunning last-minute winner against Queens Park Rangers on Monday.
“It’s been good,” said Spencer-Adams. “I had a few games on loan and then we’ve been doing well with the 23s. The lads have been giving me sticks when I do shooting drills after training so I’m happy I stuck that one in and they can’t give me any stick now.”
