A 12-member jury, was, on Tuesday, empanelled to hear the case against Adriane Sewdeen, who is accused of two counts of rape committed on an 11-year-old girl.
Sewdee, who is on trial at the Essequibo High Court, pleaded not guilty to the first count which read that between June 1 and 30, 2018, in the county of Essequibo, he engaged in sexual penetration with a child, who is under the age of 16. He also denied the second count which read that on July 9, 2018, he repeated the act.
Justice Gino Persaud will be presiding over the trial.
According to report, Sewdeen is known to the victim and her family. The victim would often be left in the care of a woman who is known to Sewdee. It is alleged that he would rape the child whenever the woman was away.
