COVID-19 death toll now at 201

THE Ministry of Health has reported that another person who tested positive for COVID-19 has succumbed. The victim is a 57-year-old male from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), who died while receiving care at a medical facility on Saturday.

His is the fourth death for March 2021, and takes the overall COVID-19 death toll for Guyana to 201.
In the meantime, Guyana has recorded 43 new cases of the virus from 674 tests conducted on March 5, 2021. Of that number, 11 were recorded in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 25 in Region Four, two in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), one in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), and four in Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice).

To date, seven persons are convalescing in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU); 40 are institutionally isolated; 419 are isolated at home and 11 are institutionally quarantined.

Guyana has confirmed a total of 8,772 cases since the arrival here of COVID-19 in March 2020, 477 of which are currently active.

All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six-foot physical distance from others, and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
