DUBBED ‘softball in a new dispensation’, the inaugural Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) Incorporated President’s T20 Softball League bowls off today, with 24 matches across various venues in Georgetown. For the All Stars fixture, six games are billed for the Queen’s College ground, while one game each is scheduled for GDF ground. For the 09:00hrs games at QC ground; Speedboat All Stars will play Regal All Stars (Pitch 1), Ariel All Stars oppose Hillfoot All Stars (Pitch 2), and Cosscutter All Stars take on Xenon All Stars (Pitch 3) and at GDF ground, the final game for the morning session will see Avinash All Stars play Essequibo Wild Oates (Pitch 1).

In the afternoon session which is set to commence at 13:00hrs, a similar number of games are scheduled to be played. At the QC ground; Speedboat All Stars take on Hillfoot All Stars (Pitch 3), Ariel All Stars play Regal All Stars (Pitch 1) and Cosscutter All Stars oppose Essequibo Wild Oates (Pitch 2). Avinash All Stars play Xenon All Stars at the GDF ground. Meanwhile, a similar number of games are scheduled to be played in both the Masters Over-40 and Legends Over-50 categories.
The three-day tournament continues tomorrow and concludes on Sunday, with the final set for the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) ground.

The winning teams in each category will receive $500 000 and a trophy while the runners-up will collect $100 000 and a trophy. There will be other incentives (trophies) for individual performances. Further the GSCL stressed that all the necessary guidelines by the Task Force were adhered to during the staging of the Prime Minister’s Cup in November and assured that same will be done for the President’s Cup, including having two certified medical doctors present at the venues to screen all players and to ensure they are wearing masks and are sanitised upon entry.
