SENIOR Magistrate Leron Daly, on Wednesday, committed Collin Venture to stand trial at the High Court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
Venture, 30, was on trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where the matter was held in-camera. He was not required to plead to the charge since it was laid indictably. It is alleged that during the month of September 2020, at Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown, Venture engaged in sexual activities with a child under the age of 16.  The magistrate ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against Venture for him to stand trial at the High Court for the indictment. He will remain out of prison on $150,000 bail.

The Guyana Chronicle had reported that Venture is known to the victim’s parents since he is a frequent visitor at the family’s shop. It is alleged that during visits to the shop, Venture would take the victim into the toilet and engage in sexual activities with her.
However, the victim’s stepmother saw a series of cell phone messages between Venture and the teen. The teen was confronted by her parents and she subsequently told them that she and Venture were engaged in a sexual relationship. The matter was reported, and Venture was later arrested.
