A POLICE Sergeant was remanded to prison on Monday for the attempted murder of his girlfriend, whom he allegedly shot in the neck during an argument at her Onderneeming West Coast Berbice (WCB) house, on February 12, 2021.

Colin Whyte appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Peter Hugh and was not required to plead to the charge; he was remanded to prison until March 2, 2021.
Whyte of Lot 63 Auchlyne Estate Corentyne, Berbice, was the Subordinate Officer in charge of the Balirmont Police Station when he shot Shonetta James, a Special Constable.
According to reports, the Sergeant went to James’ house at Onderneening, where she told him the relationship was over “due to continuous misunderstandings.”

An argument ensued during which the Sergeant allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the woman. Police said he took her to the Fort Wellington Hospital and left her there.
According to the police report, the woman was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she underwent surgery.
