Two men remanded for murder of elderly priest

TWO men who are accused of stabbing an elderly priest to death two months ago, on Wednesday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and were remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Mohanie Mohabir and Rawle McPherson were not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder.

The charge alleged that Mohabir and McPherson, between December 16 and December 21, 2020, at St. Sidwell Anglican Church, Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, murdered George Chuck – A – Sang.

According to the prosecution, both Mohabir and McPherson are known to Chuck – A – Sang as they regularly visited his home. On December 21, 2020, about 16:00hrs, Chuck – A – Sang was found in his home with several wounds. An investigation was launched and resulted in the arrest of the two accused.

The accused were interviewed, during which they reportedly confessed to the crime. As such, the charge was laid against them.

The matter was adjourned until February 25 and transferred to Court 3.
