Man gets $50,000 bail on ganja-trafficking charge

A MAN who was allegedly found with cannabis in his shop was on Wednesday, placed on $50,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Daniel Thomas denied that he, on February 9 at South Sophia, Georgetown, had in his possession a narcotic, specifically 23 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the particulars of the offence, policemen acting on information went to Thomas’s residence located at ‘G’ South Sophia where he was contacted. He was told that they received information concerning himself and would like to conduct a search on his premises, inclusive of his shop.

Thomas complied and the search was carried out in his presence. While the ranks were searching Thomas’s shop, a quantity of transparent plastic containers containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found.

Thomas was told of the allegation and cautioned, during which he remained silent.

The matter was adjourned to March 24.
