THE Ministry of Home Affairs and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Guyana have come together to improve living conditions of juveniles at the Juvenile Holding Centre. On Wednesday, the ministry, with support from UNICEF, installed 10 new bunk beds at the holding centre, located in Sophia.
Local Mechanical Engineer, Andy Moore, built the beds which comes with a security feature that reinforces each bed to the floor. These beds will improve the living standard of the juveniles at the facility and will ensure a more overall humane environment. The ministry, as part of its improvement plan, is working assiduously on improving the ergonomic of the entire facility. Currently, additional works are ongoing on the elimination of air pollution, while improving the safe-water supply at the centre. The beds were handed over to the holding centre by the ministry’s Director of Juvenile Justice Department, William Orrin Boston and team, on behalf of the Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn.
