A 26-year-old mason was on Monday remanded to prison for the murder of Kevin Smith, who was fatally stabbed at ‘C’ Field Reserve Dam, Sophia, several days ago.

Randy Wiggins of ‘D’ Field Reserve Dam appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
It is alleged that on February 8, 2021 at C’ Field Reserve Dam, Wiggins murdered Smith, a 36-year-old handyman.

Wiggins was remanded to prison until March 24.
According to a police report, on the day in question around 18:30hrs, Smith was at home when he was allegedly attacked by Wiggins, who was armed with a knife.
A scuffle ensued and Wiggins dealt Smith three stabs to his chest, lower abdomen and above his left knee, respectively, before making good his escape.
Smith was pronounced dead by a doctor who arrived with the emergency medical technician (EMT) at the scene. Wiggins was later arrested and charged with the offence.
