PRESIDENT, Dr. Irfaan Ali, said the community of Buxton is an important link in the Corridor of Unity and pledged to work closely with residents and to listen to their ideas in making the initiative a reality. “To move together, all must be involved… this charge will be led by the communities themselves,” the President said as he reiterated his commitment to working with all communities to achieve the ‘One Guyana’ drive during a community meeting on Saturday.
He also assured the residents that all communities will continue to get the necessary support as they are part and parcel of the government’s overall development agenda.
“Today, we are moving in one direction … we are going to create this Corridor of Unity. To move together, all must be involved.”
Along with the announcement, the President also listened to the concerns of the residents gathered at the ground.
Issues raised ranged from the improvement of the grounds in the community to access to housing.

President Ali and his team were commended by the residents for their efforts in the communities across the country and they said that it was time to let “bygones be bygones”.
“Today is the beginning of a journey that will take us positively forward… we have the ability to live with each other, let us begin,” the President told the residents.
He added that his government will work with the community groups, along the corridor to build trust that will lead to the Corridor of Unity.
Sport gears were also presented to the various clubs in the community as the President announced another project called ‘the Republic Unity Cup’.
He said that the initiative will commence with sporting and cultural development and pointed to sport being a unifying medium.
The Head of State was joined by several government officials, including Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall; Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd; Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr; and Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues.
