RESIDENTS of Region 10 would soon be able to benefit from services to be provided at the Linden Dialysis Centre, Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony, said on Tuesday. The minister was responding to questions posed by the Guyana Chronicle during his daily COVID-19 update with the Department of Public Information (DPI). “Right now we are concluding some discussions with 5G, the dialysis provider, so that they would be able to manage the service; those details are being worked out and once we have concluded those arrangements then we will open the centre

for use by the public,” Dr. Anthony said. Works on the dialysis centre located at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) were completed late last year; however, to date, persons have not been able to access the facility. The Health Minister explained that the facility is equipped with two dialysis machines, and everything for the operation of the centre has already been installed. A number of persons were also trained to facilitate the service, he also noted.

Chairman of Region 10, Deron Adams, recently told this publication that the centre is of utmost concern pertaining to the health sector in the region. He noted that the timely opening of the centre would provide much-needed relief to persons from the region who venture to Georgetown to undergo treatment. Adams recommended that the price charged at the private medical institutions, which provides the service in the Capital City, could be charged at the centre in Linden and residents would still be able to save money. He noted that every time a patient travels to Georgetown to undertake a session, they have to pay around $10,000 to utilise transportation alone. “Persons are calling me daily about having to travel to Georgetown to do it and we have over 40-plus patients who are currently affected with dialysis that needs to be doing dialysis sessions,” Adams explained.
