… would miss opening partner Griffith

GUYANA Jaguars opening batsman Chandrapaul Hemraj is confident of producing with both bat and ball for the national team in the Regional Super50 competition, which is billed for Antigua and Barbuda from February 7 to 27. The 27-year-old, who ended with a century and a five-wicket haul during his final practice match at the LBI ground last Friday, told Chronicle Sport that his performance has given him a renewed confidence. “I’m happy I got some runs going into the tournament, so I’m feeling very confident.” Hemraj said that along with his abilities, he is also confident that Jaguars can make inroads in the competition and return home with a favourable result. “I think we have a well balanced team with youth and experience.”
The left-hander, who will miss his opening partner Trevon Griffith, who received a positive COVID-19 test, said that he is hoping for a quick recovery.

“He (Griffith) is typically aggressive as well, unfortunately he would miss out. Hopefully he recovers quickly.”
Although he is aware that the Guyanese public would want to see him replicate his aggression from the practice clashes, Hemraj said that he would bat with purpose.
“I’ll just try to keep it as simple as possible and back my game plan … I’m naturally aggressive, but I would play some long innings in this tournament.”
Hemraj, who had a productive stint in the USA last year, is hoping that his renewed focus on getting big scores would help produce victories.
“Bowling has been our strength over the years, but hopefully our batsmen can put together good totals to give the bowlers enough to work with.”
The all-rounder is also hoping to get in overs and deliver miserly spells with his left-arm orthodox bowling.
