FORMER Youth cricketers Devon Ramnauth and Dilon Heyliger feel that Essequibo’s cricket have been short-changed and are hoping that the current county board can answer some of their questions as they relate to current and future plans in place.
The criticism stemmed from the non-objection by the board, at least not publically, about the absence of Essequibians in the national team for the Regional Super50 competition, which is set for February 7-27 in Antigua.
The pair, both living in Canada, but from South Essequibo, have since started an online protest and are hoping that the system, or at least the approach, could change moving forward.
“So basically we’re calling out the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) for answers on the non-selection of the Essequibians. We want to hear from them directly. We need answers as to why no one from the ECB is representing our players,” Ramnauth told Chronicle Sport.

The concerns by the former players are just one of many voiced by Guyanese fans over the last week.
Former ECB president Sheik Ahmad had indicated to the press that the selectors had ignored talent in their decision.
“This nonsense has to stop … the favouritism must stop. This has been going on for over four decades now and it must stop,” Ahmad had told Chronicle Sport.
Ahmad and Ramnauth also feel that Essequibo has enough talent to merit inclusion.
“Antony Adams, Ricardo Adams and Kemol Savory all did well and have experience and proven success in the franchise and tournament,” the former Essequibian cricketer declared.

Ramnauth, who is organising a Development Youth Cricket League in Region Two, also stated that the geography of the county makes it difficult to have cricket centred which has worked against many players in the past.
He said that the non-representation at the national level not only affects the current players, but aspiring young cricketers, who could lose interest in their dreams.
“There needs to be a rebranding of cricket in Essequibo and it must start from the top. The board is selected to represent the interest of the players in the county, and must always lead with that objective in mind.”
The pair aim to continue voicing their concerns on social media until change occurs and Essequibians are given fair chances at selection.
