FEATURING a cover photo and lead story from the daring climb of Mount Roraima by 21-year-old Anna Taylor, Tourism Guyana’s inaugural magazine edition was raved as “striking“, “vivid” and “captivating“ when it was officially launched on Thursday evening at the Umana Yana.
The magazine, which will have a hard copy, in addition to being available for free online, was launched under the theme “Guyana a destination on the rise”, and was created by Creative Marketing Company (CMC), owners of Tourism Guyana.
The magazine can be accessed online via the link: https://tourismguyana.gy/magazine/ .
“Tourism Guyana magazine is featured with real world, raw experiences of actual explorers to our shore,” explained, Fiaz Yamin, co-founder of Tourism Guyana.

The creators are hopeful of making the magazine an annual feature and have already begun work on the second edition for this year.
Present at the magazine launch was Director-General of the Department of Tourism, Donald Sinclair, who delivered a message on behalf of the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond. Also present was Deputy Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Kamrul Baksh, who spoke on behalf of GTA Director, Carla James, who also could not be present.
During his remarks, Sinclair, thanked the management of Tourism Guyana for the contributions that the magazine will make to promoting the Guyana tourism product and keeping interest in “destination Guyana” alive, even as the world awaits the post-COVID-19 era.
“This magazine is a message about Guyana as a resilient destination. CMC realises that this is time to keep the market aware so that when travel time opens fully Guyana must be foremost in their minds. The magazine is contributing to product knowledge of the Guyana tourism product,” Sinclair commented.
Some 4,000 copies of the magazine is scheduled to be printed with 600 copies earmarked for overseas distribution.
Baksh called the magazine “an amazing accomplishment, which has captivated many of us through its very striking and vivid imagery”. He noted that it gives a vibrant look at the realities of the growing tourism industry in Guyana.
“The Tourism Guyana Magazine portrays our country in a light that is remarkably beautiful and authentic, and provides a snapshot of that diversified, exhilarating experiences awaiting travellers,” he said.
WRITTEN BY THE EXPLORERS
Several of the stories in the magazine were written by the explorers themselves, capturing their own perspectives of their experiences, in their own words. The lead story featuring Taylor, who hails from the United Kingdom, shares her experience as the first woman to make the 2,000 feet climb up the Guyana side of Mount Roraima.
Taylor was a part of a team which travelled through over 30 miles of untracked jungle to reach Mount Roraima for the climb, in 2019. Taylor was also the youngest member of the team. The magazine also includes a tale of adventures by avid adventure fisherman, David Watmough, who is also from the UK.
“These stories were written exclusively by them and capture their real adventures which we are sure will appeal to many readers and keep the interest to all potential visitors to our shores,” Yamin conveyed.
The magazine is one among a number of features emerging in Guyana’s tourism industry geared at keeping interest alive in Guyana as a tourism destination, even as the world continues to navigate the travel restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is our hope that, with the help of this magazine, Guyana can be showcased to help be a catalyst for domestic tourism, and inject more interest for locals to explore our beautiful land, and have destination Guyana firmly on the wish list of many an international traveller when travel does get back to some sense of normalcy, hopefully in the near future,” Yamin related.
Started in September 2019, Tourism Guyana was created by CMC Founders Lisa Flemming, Heimat Ram and Yamin, to showcase Guyana as a tourism destination. The company has over 56,000 followers on its Facebook page where it posts original content.
“Tourism Guyana started as a passion project with a mission to promote all things Guyana. We wanted to bring a fresh modern appealing way to showcase Guyana, as this beautiful country is a melting pot of amazing cultures, foods, sports, fantastic wildlife and immense beauty,” Yamin shared.
