A 20-year-old labourer of Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown was arrested Sunday after police found a .32 Taurus pistol with four live rounds in an apartment at Durban and Cross Streets, Werk-en-Rust, where he ran into after trying to flee police.
Police said ranks were responding to a report of threats in Durban Street and observed a man who ran into an apartment with his right hand holding on to his pants crotch.
A policeman gave chase and the man was caught and a search was conducted on his body, but nothing was found.
However, a search was then carried out in the apartment in his presence since he was the only person in the area and a .38 pistol and a magazine containing four live rounds were found.
The man was thereafter cautioned and arrested, taken to the police station and placed into custody.
The firearm was lodged at the station and is to be examined by a ballistic expert as investigations continue.
